the beer usually comes hand in hand with the long nights on the water. Let's face it most flathead fisherman I know, including me must not be wrapped real tight! Lol.

Ya know, this may seem strange, but I think i'm a bit different than most. I like beer just fine, but I do not drink when i go fishing. I really do like fishing and do not want alcohol to interfere with it. Plus, owning a boat, I don't find it wise to push my luck.

That's totally understandable in a boat. I don't drink when I'm captain either.

I wanna hear from some of the Lake experts, Robby, Magis what you guys look for in a lake spot? I know you guys seem to target structure but what depths, in or out of the channel, off points, etc. Let me into you guys world for a minute and break it down for me. I want to start targeting lakes a little more this year and need a starting point. Thanks in advance! Kip......I'm no expert but i can give you this advice to lake flathead's .......Look for a creek channel in deeper water with a area close to shallow water or next to rip rap where bait will be hiding. Try a Kat Float or a homemade modle of 1 and float the bait over the channel depending on depth 3 to 5 ft down them flats will come outta 20ft of water to hit a bait that is 5 ft under the surface i know i do it all the time lol Kip........If you EVER want to come fish a lake like Tappan,Clendening or Piedmont you let me know we will hook up and i will show you how i target them and hopefully a good time if the fish will cooperate with us lol Offer is open for anytime you can make it down just give me a little heads up so i can let the wife know and she can kill me b4 i leave lol na shes a good woman and she lets me fish as i want . ......Sniper

Guys do you thinks that there is to large of a bait...I'ive tried 3 to 4 pound baits but I've only ever got one bite off that big of a bait.....(bass, carp, channels, drums) Mikey ...Remember them big sucker's,bullhead's and carp we ran at the SPOT look how many 20 and 30lb flattys we got there and they all hit Really big bait's we never did hit a flatty on a smaller live bait and never on a gill I know you remember the SPOT shhhhhhhh don't tell....Sniper

Even the best looking spots, or proven spots for that matter, don’t give up good fish all that often. I have one particular spot that I’m still convinced should produce, but after 4 or 5 trips I’ve still never landed a flathead there. It can get discouraging finding new spots to fish since even in our best spots we may not catch a good fish for a month or more. 2006 was the year for finding new spots, but we didn’t recognize it at the time and didn’t take full advantage. We did add one really good area to the line up, but looking back should have probably tried a few more new spots. 2006 was the year that anything under 50 was a disappointment. Sis wouldn’t even come out of the pontoon to look a 40.

That's a hell of a year Mike! I've read post in the past from you and Robby, do you think the shad population has something to do with lack of fish?

I know 1 night on a local MWCD Lake Rcbbracing and myself were covered up with shad i mean like make 1 throw with a 5ft raid. castnet and you land 50 8 -10in shad covered up. We fished Big sucker's ,Bullhead's,live shad, dead shad, gill's and i swear we would hear big fish assuming they were flatheads bust the surface 5ft ff the bank on a ball of shad we tryed all depths this was only the 2nd time from this SPOT we didn't catch any Flatheads all night the other time we used glow stick on our home made cat floats and the bite never turned on that night either do you think you can have 2 much bait in 1 area to catch any fish? .......Sniper ? 1 ......do you think to much bait in 1 area effect's the flathead bite? ? 2........Do you think Glow sticks on a float can turn the fish off talking bought the 8in model glow sticks ?
