Guys, Im seriously thinking about buying a marine radio for my boat being I fish the Ohio River often, and deal with barge traffic. Also, would be fun to poke at some locals on the small rivers when were out and about I can get the trend started. What do you reccomend as a good radio for the price? Thanks... rollo

I had one in my boat for two years and never found much use for it. I did like the weather channels on it!!!

Thanks... rollo You can pick up a good one for around $100 or less. They are only as good as the antenna you use and the antenna can cost more than the radio. They are very useful for barge traffic. You can contact the barge captain to check for clearance if your anchored in or near the channel. They are usually nice enough to let you know well ahead of time if you are fine or you need to get out of dodge. I have even had them slow down for me and tell me what to expect for a wake. To me it hard to beat the Shakespeare Galaxy antenna and an 8ft antenna is almost a must if you want any distance. If you have a capable GPS you can get a radio that will integrate and you can broadcast your location in case of emergency. I think that is called DCS or DSC (can't recall). Good luck spending you money. ;D JW, I find it hard to believe you didn't find much use for your radio. Something must have been wrong? You do realize if you push the button on the side people can hear what your saying and your not just talking to yourself.LMAO
