I would like to do some custom work to 7000 C3, would like to know if any of you have ever did so ? I would like to get a longer cast out of it and a different color side plate. Any help would be great!

My advice would be to get a new reel. 6500's and 6000's will cast much further....but they don't have the line capacity that the 7000's do. (Braid can compensate for that.)
7000's aren't made to cast really far, with the exception of the 7000hsn with its narrower spool. However you can add boca bearings, remove the levelwind mechanism, re lube your reel, add more bearings (levelwind bearing, etc.), etc. (However certain modifications may not be good for fishing.....removing levelwind.) Even with all of these modifications I don't think your going to see much of a difference when tossing baits.
As for the side plate, try looking for someone local who does hydrographic dipping, and have your side plates dipped. We have a guy down here who was going to dip my girlfriends side-plates pink for $50.......we didn't dip them though.

As far as side plate color goes, working from memory you have red, silver and black from the Swedish models. That will interchange. As far as casting distance goes you can get a little more distance with a 7000. Also you don't get a lot of extra distance with the HSN's, 20% or so. The HSN's will cast a lighter or the same weight easier with less effort.
I do not feel that the 7000 adapts well to a full supertune like the 6500's do. I played with my own reel last fall and added $26.00 in new spool bearings and the upgrade was not worth the cost.
Removing the level wind will get a lot more distance but then for most people it becomes a pain in the lower side to fish. The addition of a dual bearing worm gear is also not worth the cost.
All is not lost you can make a very pleasant to cast reel with very little cost. Comparing two new out of the box reels. What can be done is to clean and do a little creative re lubing. What you can easily get, is a reel that will cast with a lot less effort. Adding a carbon fiber drag is an upgrade that is well worth the cost. The addition of a ceramic pawl is also a good cheap upgrade.
I'll shot you a pm and phone #. Give me a call and we can talk in more detail, than I am able to type.

I had some time to read today and came upon this old post. A quick fix for more distance is to clean the spool bearings and re oil with 1 small drop of Abu Silicate oil. Then clean the grease off the plastic gears on the non handle side and oil the shaft of the cog gear with Quantum Hot Sauce oil. That should get you an extra 40 ft or so and you'll be able to cast shorter distances with less effort. Add some carbon fiber drag washers from Smoooth drag and you'll have a $10.00 fix you will really like.

I don't know the ins & outs of these reels like the previous two posters, although i've owned a number of 7000's and 6500's. The best way to get distance with a wide spool 7000 in opinion is to put it on a 9' or longer rod and back that brake off. With a medium to small bait you can sling em pretty good. I really like the hsn narrow spool 7000 too, I can forsure throw them better than the wide spool. The old gold ones were awesome, hard to find though. The new black ones must have gold plating on the inside as they retail for around $180.

more weight is usually not a good solution. you want least weight possible given your scenario. less weight gives you a more direct line to the fish. if you can get away with 2oz i wouldnt use 4. less weight also helps the hook from pulling during head shakes. you dont have as much weight bouncing around on the line
