I am asking this question to see what reel you guys would pick, if you were only allowed one, for all catfishing on all of your set ups. I am asking because I am helping someone outfit a boat, he wants all the same reels for good reason and those are his options. So if you would suggest another reel just tell me, but these are the options we came up with for the cost. In my opinion I told him to go with the penn squall in the 15 size for channel cats and move up to the 20 or 30 for flatheads and blues. Thanks for the help guys. Also, even though he is in a boat, he will be casting a fair distance. All of the reels I listed are capable in my experience.

I like my alphamar 16's a lot, they're probably my favorites out of the two kinds I have. But I like my 6500's too. They may not have the line capacity for some people but we only run 30lb test and don't cast far out at most of our spots. They are very reliable, my dad has had 2 for 25 years and still work great today. But I brought my PB in on an alphamar and it was very smooth. They also cast big bait really easily and about the smoothest casting reel i've used.

I just bough an alphamar 16 and a penn squall 30 for myself because I liked them so much on the boat. I went with the 30 just because I got a good deal on one and it puts our 5 more pounds of drag than the 20
