Anyone else like to target carp on light tackle? We often grab a couple bass rods, a can of sweet corn and head to the river to see who's outfit gets spooled, line broke first, etc. We actually get enough locals every now and then last minute for a 3 or 4 team 5 dollar each person tourney for a few hours. Lots of fun!! My love is catfishing, but changing things up every so often is fun also. rollo Attachments:

I fish for them quite a bit actually. Light tackle is all we use. The attached image is of a 13 pound 12 oz carp I caught on 6lb test using an ultra light. It was probably one of the most intense battles I have ever had. My friend caught a 32lb carp on 8 pound test last year as well. They are always fun if you target them when they start to spawn, which is pretty soon (mid April). You will be able to tell when you start seeing them jump real close to the bank. They usually spawn near downed trees, which their eggs stick to. When they spawn you can cast for them using a small jig head tipped with a night crawler. Its a blast. Attachments:

You ever tried to make your own boilies? I tried last year, didn't catch anything on them, but I liked how they held together. Might give them a try again this year.

I have made doughballs in the past using vanilla extract, wheaties, white sugar, flour of course. Kicked butt with them below Dillon spillway a few times back when I was a kid. Other than that, just usually use canned sweet corn. rollo

Yeah I used wheaties for a while, then oatballs (which is simply vanilla, oats, and water), corn, nightcrawlers, koolaid flavored oatball, etc. The most effective, least time consuming, and the cheapest, is by far corn.

I like to catch carp! They put up 1 heck of a fight! I usually use sweet corn on light tackle. I caught about 3 in ten minutes once all about ten to five pounds to!
