Caught this little guy while bait fishing in the Black Fork Creek below Charles Mill Lake. He bit on a little nightcrawler.

Cute lil guy gives me hope for flatheads closer to home since that river flows less than a miles from my house!

I caught a channel cat and a small flathead while catching bluegill for bait on the 27. This fish was very pretty and mottled but we didn't get a picture showing the color well. Hopefully this little guy will want a reunion when he gets over 50 pounds.

Cool pic for sure. Man that would have made a nice aquarium fish. If I find one like that you can rest assured it will have a nice 50 gallon home. ;D I caught a smaller one earlier in the year as well, probably 12-14 inches. Too big for my aquarium. It was really neat looking as well. Here's a pic of him and the bottom we were fishing. Perfect camouflage. Any opinions on why they are so camouflaged? My first thought would be protection from predators? But that wouldn't explain why the larger flatheads sometime camouflage themselves. Any thoughts?

i think you're right, it protects them from predators while they're little............seems like the smaller they are the more black they have and as they grow they loose the black splotches......
water clarity probably plays a role too.........i know fish looked pale coming out of the lake i used to fish alot, and that water stayed muddy most of the year......
