This year I am going to concentrate on daytime flatheading..... although I say that every year lol! My intent is to probe structure and deep holes with saltwater jigs and cut bait. I sit night after night knowing these fish will cruise the shoreline looking for an easy meal and I wonder..... where are these fish during the day? Why not hunt the fish? Any thoughts? Anyone ever try it?

There are a few In-Fisherman publications on the exact technique you are mentioning. I dont remember the names of them but if you search for them im sure you will find them. I read a few of them and was amazed at the amount of fish they were catching during the day. They targeted structure in 10 foot or more of water with a jig and a piece of cut bait. Muddier water allowed them to fish shallower because the cats used the structure to hide from the sun. They would "thump" the bait on the bottom causing commotion and enticing the flathead to bite. They would fish a peice of structure for 10 minutes and move to the next spot. I believe one guy mentioned using baby snapping turtles as bait. Never tried to do it though, I usually sit on a piece of structure drop my bait and wait. Good luck, and let us know if you have any luck.

I do know of one guy that caught a 34lb flat at one o'clock in the afternoon but that fish came from a very deep hole. Good luck !

My 48lb pb came at about 1:30pm on a bright sunny day that was in the 90s temp wise about 5 feet of the bank.

Im not sayin i dont use bass, but i never talk about it because if bassfisherman no im killing there pride and joy, Im sure they would throw mine up on the banks if and when they catch a flathead, There is actuly a good bit of flatheads caught by bass men. Thats why i do not talk about bass as bait.

Same here Brock. especially in the MWCD lakes. Alot of bass guys already kill alot of the saugeyes they catch and not to eat either.

Thats a shame guys! The Bass fisherman did that to a lake close to me with the Muskies. Just threw them on the bank!
