supersticious catfishers

I know alot of folks that enjoy to fish as much as possible also have sometimes strange or unique supersticions. What are some of ya'lls??

i probably have a few that may or may not bring me good luck, lol.....if im on the last reel in of the day and end up breaking off......i take that line and tie it off to the bridge of the eye on the rod........next time i go fishin when i rig that pole i will cut the line and leave a few inches hanging off the bridge of the eye.....I have a couple rods that have had that string hanging off the eye for a couple years.........sometimes people i fish with have tried to cut it off for me and i have to yell at them, lol.......

Not really a superstition like yours but I am guarenteed the pole or reel that is least capable will get the best fish of the night...for example two of the three flatheads I caught a few months ago that weekend were all on a $30 Shakespeare spk2000...a reel with virtually no drag and reviews online claim a ten lb channel would be a miracle caught a 24lb flathead...granted it took me double thumbing the spool and burning my thumbs... it held together tho...just one of many examples...the line tied to the pole is kind of a neat quark tho lol

We have certain rods that just flat out produce more fish. Amanda has a berkely reflex paired with a abu 6000 and it catches double the fish as any other rod. Also when using new reels for the first time, we'll switch rods between reels if they don't land a fish that night....in hopes of changing our luck. I will post again if I think of any more.

Oh yea and we kiss all our live baits before we hook em up......joking.lol

I have a lucky Ohio state hat that I haven't washed in four years. It always brings me luck, that old hat has seen a pile of catfish slime over the 4 years. Seen a PB flathead and PB Bluecat also.

I dunno if this falls under supersticious or just plain weird ;D but when I go out on my boat for a night of fishing, everything has to be in a certain place inside the boat. I am far from what one would call a perfectionist. However, anchors go in one corner of the boat. Dry bag along the side. Catbag along another side. Then I keep a tote under the consol that has alittle bit of everything else from hook sharpeners, rope, tools, weights, etc. I like to fish in the dark like most others and like to know exactly where everything is. If its the way I want it, it almost seems as if I'm tuned in for a good night. If one of my buds jumps in the boat and starts slinging stuff around, and not allowing my organization, it almost seems were not mentally focused on putting 100 percent into fishing that night. Very bothersoom to me, and we have even got into little arguments over this before. I like to know where everything is, not worry about tripping ect. for when that small window of opportunity may happen. rollo

Once again not really sure how superstitious it is...but seems if I plan and plan and overthink and try to determine where the fish are I will have worse luck than if I just go and have a good time and quit trying to outsmart the fish...I used to worry too Much about catching fish than having a good time...had far better luck since I just started to relax and enjoy...

I agree with you to an extent. I think there is a difference between over thinking and being focused. I have been guilty myself in the past of over thinking. You can plan a trip out, but more likely you will be thrown with variables that you didn't plan or have thought of once on the water. If you plan everything is gonna work out a certain way, you are def. setting yourself up for disappointment! However, my focusing is more to do with routine. Not as much as where we are gonna fish, and a set way how we are gonna target them.. But, being setup in a comfort zone moreless, that i'm used to trip after trip. Knowing where everything is, not worrying about this or that once on the water. Just fishing. Does that make any sense in what im trying to say? LOL ;D rollo

Definitely makes sense! I consider myself very organized so completely with you one that...I'm meaning more just trying to plan days ahead as to why and where the fish will be in a certain spot...and like you said 9 times out of 10 when I do that I end up disappointed lol

I have had more disapointing trips when targeting flatheads than any other fish for time spent! I know your pain! And have spent more time targeting that species over others also! It hurts your "feel bads" LOL.. rollo
