Thanks man. It's been a blast after a near dry spell for a few years. Put my brother in law on his first flathead a porky 20# fish, in a lake that I've never caught one from. Put my Dad on his first flatheads, 3 in one night topped off with a 32# beauty. I've lost count of the total this year, but I know it's over 30 flatheads, with 7 of them over 25#'s.

I'm having better luck this year with Kahles for flatheads. Lost a couple giants on the double actions this year. Switched to Kahles and we have 100% hook up rate since.

I get mine directly from Ande now. They have their own store on the site.

Here are some gear reviews from my website. thequestformonstercatfish.com/category/gear-reviews/I prefer Ande Monster Yellow mono for line in 40 or 50 pound. For reels, I would spend a little more and get the Penn Squall. Match those with one of the Catfight rods from Bottom Dwellers the Take Down or Knock Out and you will be able to handle any catfish you come in contact with.

Another rod that is a huge bang for the buck is the Okuma Cedros Speed Jig rods. The 6' 6" H or 6' XH will handle any fish in North America. The Okuma Battle Cat is another rod that is a good choice, although they seem to be a little on the light side for me. Also check out the Super Cat casting rods from Rippin' Lips. I plan on testing one of these for my website at some point.

The Catfight Takedown or Knock Out rod from Bottom Dwellers Tackle would be my top 2 choices for the budget you stated in your reel post, $70. The KO is a little over that. Both rods are currently out of stock, but the last time I talked to Dave he was thinking they may be back in stock sometime in July.

Great post Scott! I have been on the receiving end of similar help from many of my catfishing brothers. Like when you brought me a cooler full of suckers when you were passing through Indy. I caught my biggest flathead so far this year on one of them! Like Kip said I have met so many good friends through catfishing. I always try to help out my catfishing brothers any time I can. It's awesome that you have recognized some of the people who have helped you out. Looking forward to fishing with you again man.
Chuck.
