Wade Ya got no respect. Kip didn't even extend the net for you Ya'll were on the edge of that shallow water. The surprise for me was a double on a slack tide.

Wade I will go to Hamilton the 22 and probably get home late. I stay to hear arguments and that is always last. But Golden Corral seems good and only 1/2 hr drive.

How do the fish react to the blue herring run? Is fishing easy or tough when they migrate through?

2013 was another tough year for me. Best flathead only went 54 and only a few over 50. But I remain optimistic. Snowfall this winter rivals 1997-98. That year shad population crashed and Mmagis and I had 2-3 great years of flathead fishing. One year we got a 50+ almost every weekend and I got got 3 flathead 60+ during a one week period. If those shad crash someone remember to bring out some sandwiches cause I won't want to come ashore to eat

Plan on trying early flats this year. Sis had me stock up on propane for the cooler nights aboard the pontoon.

With this Winter it may be a late start. Once the shallows have water over 50 degrees I start hitting shallow bays. I have found some with extra heat holding structure and others that stay out of the wind to try first.
This year my wife wants to start early and take the heater buddy on the pontoon to stay cozy. The first few trips may just yield relaxing nights sleep aboard the boat.

As we get into October our flathead action begins to slow. Depending on weather (water temperature) we may catch flathead till Nov. Some lakes cool faster than others due to depth and flow of water through the lake. In one lake we found separate locations from summer patterns where flathead stage before going to winter holes. On nights the flathead feed they tend to make extensive hunting routes and give us plenty of opportunities. We fish points or small islands and these tend to pinch more fish past our locations. The flathead in other lakes may stage but I have not found where. I fished deeper water in bays but it may be that they stage in areas of open water.

Chuck I was thinking of making a smiley that included a bull and toxic vapors.
I guess maybe some of the folks are joking but others get outraged if you question their ability to judge, estimate, formulate, average the fish they catch.
I emphatically believe that weight is most clearly determined using a quality calibrated tool known as a scale. I sometimes send people a link to sites selling small digital scales that remain + - 2 ounces over a 100 pound range and cost less than $10.
These little scales are easily portable and have tare functions to automatically deduct net or weigh sling weights.
While most catmen work for years to catch a trophy catfish, there are others who display a inferior photo of a fish and throw out a suggested weight that they feel others will believe. This diminishes the accomplishment of dedicated anglers and insults the intelligence of all.
All I ask is that they keep the numbers inside the realm of possibilty so I can give them the benefit of doubt.

Over the years I have become increasingly annoyed at posts I see with fish with grossly exaggerated weights attached to fish pictures. Is it just me or are there more and more grossly claimed weights the last year or two.
I fish hard and take great care to have witnesses as I weigh fish or take pictures of scale readings to avoid any confusion about what my fish weigh.
Can anyone tell me of a gentle way to post a gentle reminder to those who somehow feel that everyone will believe any number they care to attach to their fish? I find it increasingly harder to refrain from questioning the validity of some claims of obviously false weights.
It seems that Facebook contains some of the worst of these miscalculations or there are some really bad scales. I just followed one post of a 40ish blue cat that claimed to be 84 pounds with a post that says "84 is a mighty large blue cat"
Do you think many people will understand that I meant larger than that one fella?
