We got into 16 channels last sunday in about two and a half hours. Found them in 3 feet of water or less. They were not aggressive at all real light biters. Really slowed down as the sun set. All were caught on cut shad. Also noticed the shad were getting active in the shallow waters.

What you have there look like mooneyes to me. Skipjack are more slender height wise. Skipjack can be caught at Aberdeen but have been scarce the last few years.

I have had a Surge Elite for 3 years now and I love it. Biggest I have got on it was a 45# flat and had no problems getting it in.

When using braided line especially I like a rod with stainless steel guides. I have seen braided line cut right through guide inserts on brand new rods. Once the insert is cut it will break the line very easily. I prefer stainless on any rod as this eliminates problems with guide inserts falling out.

For my flathead setups I use 100# greenspot dacron or mason big cat. On my channel setups I use 20# Berkley big game. I have never had an issue with getting broke off on the big game.

The last one was a 40 pound female king I caught out of the Kenai River last year. This was by far the hardest fighting fish that I have ever caught. We landed it atleast 2 miles down river from where I hooked it after being pulled up, down, and across the river for 45 minutes. Just when I thought it was beat she would see the boat and it was on again. lol

There is a fully rifled one on OGF in the classified section Gary. Not a steal but a little cheaper than a new one.

If you had to make a few adjustments at all something is not right. Rod and main bearings should go in with no problem at all. Sounds to me that you did not have the right bearings or something is not right with the crankshaft or connecting rods. If none of the rod bearings would fit I would think the problem is wrong bearings.

Love the 8/0 gama circles. Couldn't tell ya the last time that I used anything else. Just took me awhile to figure out that you just have to be patient with a circle.

I sure do like my abu's for casting, but for boat fishing I'll take my penn's. They ain't worth a crap for casting but I sure can pull the bottom of the river up with them.
