a thing of advice... if you are getting a baitcaster get one with a clicker it is soo much nicer... and my X brother in law has had a few ming yangs and he likes them and they are very similar to a abu garcia... but i wouldnt recommend one because i would get a name brand just for the fact it is probably better made abu's arent super expensive, but I havent heard anything bad about them

i would stay away from braid... don't get me wrong braid is great and that is all i used to use... to me the disadvantages out weigh the advantages with the line backing into itself, and the nicking easily... and the biggest advantage with braid is the strength vs size, but if your a good fisherman and don't horse fish, you really don,t need the extra strength... me personally i like the "Trilene big game" line in solar green it is very visible and strong for its size and i havent had any problems with nicking... I dont think for channels you need more than 20 lbs test... because they say the world record flathead that weighed 123 lbs was caught on a zebco 33 with 12 pound test (what ive always heard)... so i believe if you have some experience you dont need gaint 100lbs test line

I completely agree with ya monsterkat... Abu's the only thing I use anymore... Te only time I'm not using a baitcaster is for bait because bait fishing is no fun on my bass or catfish rods lol

Mono... Seems to me the fish don't like the feel if the braid... Can have two rods beside each other same bait one braid one mono and my bites on the braid don't last as long... Channels seem to drop me often

I was kinda thinking about doing in at my school as a a club... And I'm talking to a guy from the collegiate catfishing association from Tennessee and he is helping me right up a set of rules and stuff but I thought I would involve this sight in it... It doesn't have to have it as a school club it just seemed to be the easiest at the time

heck yes mexicanthreat... i think the catfishing community is tired of the little fish and want to see some real fishing, but the marketability of catfish is smaller because of them being harder to catch the larger specimen... The fact of selling so many plastic and other fake baits is what the companies want... they want to keep people interested in the bass so they can make more money

I've got a 7000 c3, a HD Tidewater( made from mostly arsenal parts), a 6'6 foot medium heavy powerod, a team KVD 20 spinning combo, abu garcia tournament grade anbassaduer rod, or I could put some money on top... I could make a trade for some of these things but not all... Mainly looking for a 7000 big game to match my other or any better 7000 than my c3... 2 main things are I can't deliver, could meet... And the reel has to be in working order

I would think since channels are blues are so similar that they would be competitive for the same food source... I bet since blue are more oriented toward scavenging that a channel would have to relive more on being a predator than a scavenger... You should try using more live bait than cut or prepared baits

I'm looking for a 6500 c3 or other small reel like a 6500... I've been looking for a second one for channel catfishing, and I don't really have the money because I'm going to be buying some rods off bottom dwellers
