I agree about hating the circles. they have their time and place but for flatheads they arent worth squat. circle hooks are great for drifting for channel cats though.

my favorite rods are Grandt Rods All American Pro Series DR70C. These are a heavy action 7ft casting rod. All stainless guides. These are actually a saltwater rod, but they work great for cats. they are made in the USA and have a true lifetime warranty. They run about $160 but they are worth every penny.
