I have to agree with mexicanthreat if your throwing big baits, you won't have to be able to worry about detecting bites from small channels. For reels maybe a Tekota TEK500 or the Penn Squall 15 More line capacity than the 6500 without getting to big. I have just decided to go with the 7000ic3. I understand that they're made in China but I love my abus so much I'm going with it. My friend has 4 and they never let him down or disappoint. I also like abus for casting, which I need sometimes especially on the river bank.

I have caught flatheads on nightcrawlers before while bait fishing. Small ones though, I think only 7 pounds

So I caught this little guy fishing for channels with a hot dog/koolaid bait recipe. I thought it was a big channel until I got it to the surface. It weighed 8.7, but I still wouldn't expect to catch a flathead on something like hotdogs. Is this common? What's the weirdest thing you guys have caught flatheads on?

2 piece rods have aren't as strong as a 1 piece for the most part there are exceptions thanks bobby, I'm thinking that when I turn 16 I want to get a small truck to transport my rods.

What are the differences between one piece and two piece rods? What are advantages and disadvantages? Right now I have my permit so when I drive I have to have a parent, and I drive a car. A pontiac g6 to be exact. Some one piece rods do fit in the car but when I have other people in the car it is a hassle. I do get my license in 3 months and it won't matter but I was just wondering for the time being.

Well I got skunked. I tried six different spots including the bays. I had no problem catching bait. The only run I had was on a smaller sunfish in a spot that was inside the park. I think it may have been a channel because it dropped it before I even touched my rod and never came back. I really don't know what I did wrong. I've never been skunked, but I've also never fished for flathead in a lake.

Headed to the lake. Boat ramp first to catch some bait then we'll be there all day! I'll post pictures when I get home!

I've never fished for flatheads in a lake. I've heard it is very different from rivers, what should I do and look for or change from my river tactics

Yes there are flatheads in Seneca lake and a huge channel cat population. There's also a good amount of stripers and white bass. As for spots I like to fish in the coves and close to the original Creek channel. what would you suggest I fish for? Is there a pretty decent flathead population?

I'm going to seneca lake this weekend. I had a camp there and did fishing when I was there up until I was about 11 and then we sold the camp. I didn't know much I just fished with worms from our dock. This is the first time I am going back to go fishing. My question is, are there flatheads in the lake? I assume there are and it may be a dumb question but I want to be sure so I don't go fishing for them if they aren't there. What other kinds of fish are there for me to target? If I don't catch any flatheads I may switch to fishing for channels. What baits are there for me to catch there? I just need some info on the lake and maybe a few spots to look for if you guys know any. I understand if you don't want to give up your spot though! Lol

nice, I like penn reels overall, the only thing that has kept me from buying another squall is the clicker is tough for smaller fish to pull out and I feel like it scares them off
We're not after small fish Morgan! lol
lol, I like my reels to be versatile, and I have even been fishing for channels with the clickers lately with success but they get scared off by the penn
