I Use 9/0 charlie Browns from BDT and 5/0 Gamakatsu and eagle claw for channels and I use cut Fence posts instead of PVC. the fence post is a good idea, I mostly buy all of my stuff from bd because it's very convenient and has fast shipping. I'll order the Charlie browns soon, I've been hesitant because I lose hooks a lot lol

6/0 Bottom Dwellers Circles for Channels and 9/0 Charlie Brown hooks for flatheads. I've caught Flatheads up to 50 pounds from the bank with the reel locked down and using a pvc rod holder. The trick is to back the drag off some. You want it to be tight to load the rod all the way up but not too much you lose your rod. oh I get it now, I didn't think about loosening the drag a little bit, I always thought a big fish would take the whole thing lol. Also, bottom dwellers doesn't carry 6/0 circles anymore so I was thinking the gamakatsu circles that they carry in about a 5/0 would work well. Any experience with those? Thanks kip

I started using kahles last couple years and have had great hook ups, almost 100%. I started using vmc wide gap kahles in 6/0. These hold a sharp point for a very long time. I still have some from last year that I have yet to have to sharpen. They are not terribly expensive. 2.99 for a 6 pack. 6/0 for channels or are you using them for flatheads? I've been using 7/0 king kahles, seem to be the best size the size for flatheads I catch but I also catch some bigger channels when fishing for shovel heads with them

Also, I have never felt comfortable using a pvc rod holder on the bank while running circles with the reel engaged. How do you do it without the fish, especially if they are larger, pulling the rods into the water? I've never had the guts to try it

What are your favorite hooks for flatheads and channels? Where do you get them from? Just interested in what people use and I'm looking for hooks that I like that I can use regularly. I've been using king kahles lately

I get my bait in the rivers. I mostly throw in the riffles or directly behind them, that's were the fish usually are. I also will throw off of sand bars. My river is more like a large creek. Also try by bridge pilings, I'm successful in these spots also. my part of the ohio river is a few hundred yards wide so I'm pretty limited lol, I will try the bridge pilings though

I get most of my bait from the cast net. Drum, suckers baby carp and shad. My other go to baits I catch legally on rod and reel. Make sure you check your regulations so your abiding by your laws. where do you throw to catch them? I threw at least 80 times today in the ohio river off my local dock and didn't catch a thing. I know my laws say 6 foot cast net and I have a 5 foot. What am I doing wrong. It really bothers me that I can't consistently catch bait.

Does anyone know much about cast netting? I'm good at throwing it but the only place I ever catch anything is in a small creek out the road, small suckers and chubs up to like 6 inches. If I catch a drum or something on those I use it for bait but I need bigger bait more consistently. Anyone catch big bait with a cast net on the ohio river? I really need any advice to catch big bait. Thanks!

Once in awhile u can catch carp on floats, but yes bottom rig is goin to be your best bet. Just a simple Carolina rig is all ya need. do I put the clicker on or use a small circle hook with the reel in the holder for carp with a slip sinker rig? Thanks by the way

When targeting carp, use small hooks. Like a no.6 or even a no.8. They can be very hook shy. A lot of guys use dough balls. I always done best with a glob of night crawler. If the current is not bad get a can of corn and chum the area, seems to help a lot. A few pieces of corn on a hook is good also if your chuming with corn. Also light line is a good idea. I like using 8lb when carp fishin. do you fish bottom for carp? I've never done it before

Actually if it's a good idea I could get it started, just wasn't sure since I'm new here. Should it be teams? If so like $5 a person? Or should everyone just throw something in for a prize? Let me know! I would really like to do it

I think we should have an online tournament, but instead of weight, it should be length. I think it should be one species too, I had channels in mind. If it sounds like a good idea someone should start it up. I don't know if length would be a good idea but it's just something different. It would be a fun way to add competition to our lives lol

I don't want to agitate or make anyone mad but most of the time my family and friends kill them around here. They even try to shoot the on the surface sometimes. I have respect for all fish unless they are bait! Lol but I would like to kill the gar sometimes
