The only thing I have noticed with the nats if you get a breeze it doesnt matter what you have out they will blow right at you no matter what. Semi calm nights work best in the boat. The shore they work great to keep the mosquito's away!!!

I use Gills on every trip. Reason why they are my favorite. They are easy to get fresh year round before each trip. The kids love catching gills doesnt take long with 8-12 rods in the water!

Been around it my whole life all 40 years. Dad owns a bait/tackle/blackpowder shop. So my inspiration/knowledge came from him and all the customers over the years. Reeled in my first fish (bullhead) @ age 1 and carried on the tradition to my little ones they all got there 1st fish @ age 1 also.

I use this rig mainly for drifting with a pencil weight or 3 way rig. Reason I use it for drifting/trolling= less chance of hook getting snagged, keeps the bait off the bottom, (no bottom trash on the hook) adds size and color to your baits. Can be used from shore also with cut bait and slip sinker just make sure your swivel is heavy enough to keep it at the right distance (with out floating up) might need to add a split shot or 2 or make sure you tight line it.

Rcbbracing and Others What rigs/setups with floats do you use for flats? Just wondering the other ways you and others set them up?

For deeper waters I use a heavy slip sinker 1-8oz below the baits to slow them down and keep them in line so they cannot swim up. In the shallows I use as little weight as possible so the baits can pull the float and move around more. Also I do different hook sets, the nose they swim down, the back swim in circles and the tail they go up till they tire out. Don't know if these are the best ways or not just how I do it. I run both of these setups in lakes and rivers. As far as floats I like the smaller size shark floats Dave sells they work a lot better than my pool noodle floats I made up they seam more balanced when casting. If your having problems keeping the bait in 1 spot let your sinker get to the bottom. The only problem would be if your fishing really deep water and want your bait up in the middle you wouldnt be able to cast it from shore even if it is a slip rig. There is a way I fish lakes with a non slip float but never tried it with big baits only smaller 3-5 inch shad. I cut how ever much line I want for the depth 20ft-50ft, tie a bobber on 1 end and the sinker/bait on the other, make a small loop in the middle and tie your main line to the loop and reel it all in like a V. With big baits it might end up being a mess PS I know this all didnt pertain to keeping big baits put like you asked I got off topic like always but maybe you can get some ideas from it.
