with the way gas has been getting, I've been looking at a boat I can throw in the back of a truck that is light but one I can still put a small outboard on. I've been looking at scanoes; what's everyone think about fishing out of one of these or has anyone ever owned one?

I just bought a 14' jon boat and it weighs around 200lbs empty. Two people can easily carry it and unload it without a trailer. To save gas I pull it in my car, 98 Monte Carlo....28mpg, and it has handled nicely so far......6 trips and 4 different boat ramps under its belt so far.
Make sure to pay attention to max weight loads, when I was looking into small boats I quickly found that my gear and myself quickly added up. Mine has a max weight limit of around 980lbs...plenty for 2-3 people, our gear, and that 40lb monster we bring overboard. Lol.

I was looking at the dimension rogue river 154 bass pro carries, it has a capacity of 850 lbs and 5hp motor rating. I thouguht it be nice to have this type of boat to put in wherever I want instead of wasting gas to motor to a spot. Sean what's the max hp rating for your 14 footer?

25 HP....it has a 7.5 now that will only push 2 people at about 8mph. It will get us from point a to point b, but it will take a while. I'll probably get a 15hp 4 stroke next summer for it so we can get out and fish the big river with it. Here's a link of a few aluminum boat specs for various makers. It should give you an idea of what to expect if you went that way. www.akmccallumco.com/pdf/jon-boat-listing.pdf
