Well I don't think I'll be fishing my typical lake this weekend. There's going to be a huge bass tourney with 150+ boats, a crappie tourney with 25+ boats, and all the recreational boaters. Pr-registration starts Friday, so I imagine a lot of those tourney guys will be out fishing and scoping the lake out.
I plan on getting some chubs tomorrow around 3, so with chubs in hand, here's my questions.
Lately I have been having a rough time getting shad, so Im looking for help. 1.) Where would you go to get shad? In a lake, shallow or deep? Spillway? If I don't get shad here's the follow up:
2.)A local bait store down home started carrying flathead bait last week, 6+ inch Israeli carp, 5-10" goldfish, live gills, etc. Here's the dilemma, do I go and fish a new lake in my boat for channels with creek chubs? or Do I head out to the river with chubs Israli carp, and gills and fish for blues and flats. Keep in mind that I'm going to have live bait and will be tempted to use it. These baits aren't near the size or oily enough as the baits I would normally use for blues so I may really be risking a good skunking if I rely on the flathead bite.
Even another option would be to fish Rocky Fork Lake after the boaters leave. With the assumption that all the traffic and water getting stirred up will have the fish feeding at night..
We have a good stretch of weather and Rylans down to fish Friday through Sunday so it should be a good weekend......and I don't want to start off on a skunking......or getting shown up all weekend.
I'm sure we'll catch fish anywhere but I just wanted some guidance. Every weekend I get to be like a little kid in a candy store, too excited with too many options to choose from to make up my mind. (man there were a lot of to's in that sentence.)
Whats your thoughts?
