Kip I gave up smoking ;D Just thought I would add a note about that night. Here is a pic of the catches after I got on some dry clothes ;D The largest flathead was a female that I knew well. Me and my friends first caught her when she was 37 pounds. We caught and released her 6 or 7 times over about a 5 year period. In this picture she was 61 pounds.

I was working in Canada one year and could only fish maybe once a month or even less. But I have proof that catch and release works ;D When I caught this 55 pound male I noticed the rub marks from the spawn. He had a limb over his back and rubbed the skin through fanning the eggs. The picture on the right was the first time I caught him and the one on the left was taken 6 weeks later.

Last year at meeting with a bunch of the guys I went out with the infamous Skip (sman) on the mighty muskegum. We left Dillon Lake I was worried as hell cause he took his boat for a trip down one of the low head dams so I was nervous. I dont think he slept for the last 36 hours or so but after discussing with a few peeps I decided to go. After about a decent drive down the MM we got launched the boat and setup started to setup our lines, I put mine in first using fresh (but kept in ice) shad and filleted a special skip way. All of our lines were out and not longer than 10 - 15 minutes I had a good hit and it kept going and going and going. I picked up my rod (9ft berkley glowstick with Abu 9000 and 40lbs big game) and set the hook. Took me about 15 minutes to bring in my biggest ever Flathead at 40lbs. Not long after that I caught another 5lbr and then another 5 - 10lbr and then another I was freaked out LOL. Skip caught a 38lbr maybe 20 minutes after I caught my biggun. It was an amazing trip to say the least with some huge (too me) fish. I think we managed to bring in 150lbs of fish in less than 3 hours. What was funny as Skip was like well this has never happened I usually stay out all night but he was its up to me LOL. I said lets stay out for another hour or so and see but we didnt catch anything else so we left after that. Attachments:

Luckeywade and I decided to make a trip south on the Muskingum one night, it was the 16th of Nov. 2009 it had been real cold and decided on one last trip. Bait was tough that day and ended up settling for some chubs and some smaller shad. Once we got setup and got all are rods out the bite was slow we had a few taps and i ended up catching a 5 or 6 pound flathead. I was fishing a 3 way and went to cast out, my drop line broke and i had the worst birdsnest ive ever seen. Randy talked me into respooling it. I was messing with randy and i said bigbait big fish, There was one monster shad in the bucket. We set there for another hour or so and Randy said 15 mins. and were leaving. When the 15 was up i said 15 more and we got to bsing. About a half hour later my clicker starts to slow roll on that big bait. I picked the rod up and engaged but he dropped it. Seconds later he picked it back up and started to move off again, when he loaded it up I set. It was like setting into a log. At first it was more dead weight then he came alive, once he got to the boat he made 4 or 5 more runs to the bottom finally we got him in the net. I said thats gotta go over 50! LOL! He ended up weighing 48.8#s and was around 48inches long My PB Flathead!

One nite last year biggie and i was fishing A spot we have both done well on in the past in the early season, the water was still cool enough for live shad so we caught some real nice bait. 10 to 12 inch shad and a few green sunfish. After that we set up and sat down to wait for a flathead. Before dark i had a run on a green sunfish set the hook and brought a 27 up from the murky water, soon later biggie caught a small flathead on a casted pole with a live shad beside a big dead fall. Darkness came and we sat with not even a channel run, at 2 am we were both cold and ready to go, Already happy with 2 flatheads caught before, we decided to pack up and head home, the last pole i picked up that nite, I started to get about 20 cranks on it and WAM it bout flew out of my hands, didnt even set the hook just in shock and awe i then set the hook, but no need to, he was already hooked, thinking at first it was a giant musky half way in i realized this was no musky but a flathead! Best fish i caught last year, and the most unexpected!

Here is another story from a few years back, My cousin and i was fishing a cat tourny, water was still in the mid 60s and the nite was a cold one for may, at about 10 pm my cousin had a run and landed a 25 pound flathead, after landing the fish i hear a clicker down the bank, i run down and set the hook as soon as i set the hook the fish was already in a snag, i told dakota to hury up with stringing that fish and get over here, he tied em up and ran to me, i said grab this rod im goin after this fish, i had no idea if it was a 2 lb flathead or a 50lb flathead i took off my clothes as fast as i could and walked out holding the line to retrieve my fish, i got to about 5 foot ddep and still felt the fish tuging on the line, So i took a big breath and went down untangled the ine and brought a little 8lb flathead up, dakota had the light on and started crackin up laughin saying you went in the water for a minnow! i was so mad and cold i couldnt say a word, now looking back it was funny, but that nite i was not a happy camper!

It was a evening like any other came home from work and decided to call a friend my buddy Matt got off work at 8pm by the time we had dinner and b.s a bought the day it was 10pm and i said hey its a wed. night and your off work tomorrow we need to hit the local MWCD Lake and chase some flatty's we had some bullhead from last weekend's trip and they were still healthy and wanting to go also lol Matt took the only goldfish we had left (it now lives with him in a 20gal tank and is named bugger) I told Matt on the way to the lake of a spot i wanted to fish for last couple yrs and every time i got there it was taken ,I said what the hell let's see if it's taken and to our surprise it was open. We got the rod's baited and put out and we just settled in and i'll be damned if it didn't start to storm,Matt looked at me and i said oh hell no we are staying i have waited to fish this spot and i'm gonna do it tonight if you want to go you can but I"m staying so we popped the tail gate on the trail blazer and used it as a roof and sat there from 11pm till 4am when it quite, I went and sat in my chair and Matt followed suit and we were talking bought how this spot had not gave us a fish yet and i said it will happen and it will be a good one when it does and Matt chuckled and said ok Sniper what ever you say and then it happened......... At 4:30am My clicker on my Shakespeare Arsenal H.D 20 Reel and 40lb mono started clicking it was a smaller Bullhead maybe 5in or so and it was a SLOW Steady pull like them big flathead's do not a care in the world I shut down the clicker and engaged the reel's drive and waited for him to tighten the line and get all the stretch outta it and let him have it the 7/0 king kahel hook found it's mark in the corner of his mouth and the fight was on or so i thought .........I thought i was snagged at 1st there was a steady pressure on the line and a nice bend in the Quantum big cat med/hvy rod and i told Matt to get the net and be ready he was coming in.......He got 5 ft from the bank and all hell broke lose ripping drag and going hog wild got him in and realized how big he was......53in long 36in girth and weighed in at 42lb's 6oz Matt was a great net man and a hell of friend thank you again buddy needless to say my spot paid off in a big way the fish came outta 14in of water ........Sniper
