My net is starting to dry rot a bit. Looking for a good net for landing flatheads from bank or boat. The net i own has lasted me for years but is now discontinued so any suggestions would be great.

For room purposes on the jon boat i'd look into colapsable nets. I bought the bass pro brand and its not what i expected. It has a soft front rim, which makes landing big fish a challenge. I know stowmaster nets are collapsable and rather expensive, but might be worth the investment.

Any chance you can get a replacement net? i thought of that too but i cant find the right size. you think it would hurt to go a little bigger than whats on there now? sean. I looked at those nets, but the collapsable ones just kind of scare me i cant see that they would be as rigid or durable

Just check their site you should be able to get anything you need. They even have rubber replacement netting to fit most nets. I've used Frabill nets for many years they are built well never had any trouble with them.

Just a little note. When you replace netting you have to take the hoop off the handle before taking the old netting on and replacing the new. Before putting th hoop back on fish strong line through the hoop and use it to fish 1/4 " rope or bigger if it will fit through the hoop. Soak the rope in as much fiberglass resin or elmers glue as it will hold. This more than doubles the strength of the hoop. After that remove the rubber butt cap off the handle and shoot as much styrofoam (used to shoot insulation around windows) into the handle as possible. Now if your net falls overboard it won't sink. If your net has a colapsable handle shoot the foam in with the handle colapsed. I have a spare net that is quite large but a less experienced angler thought you could lift a flathead with the handle and it got bent. I put a wooden dowel in the handle to repair it but it is no longer colapsable I don't think I have ever wore the netting out of a net. I reckon I need to catch more fish.
