I think it is called the blood knot. Put it through the eye, wrap 6 or 7 times and then back through the loop in the line by the hook.

I suggest Snelling your hooks. Especially using circle hooks.

thanks pawpaw, i have seen it used i just havent used it in so long. i dont like doubling the line through the eye quite the way a palomar knot does

Pretty much like a trilene knot. But not wrapping it through the eye two times. Thats the one that doesnt want to cinvh down easily.

I snell all of mine to the hook, and use the trilene knot as well for swivels etc. Lots of great knots out there, but learning to snell I think is essential! rollo

One thing I think is important to remember is each different brand and type and size of line works differently with different knots. I tie the polamer whenever possible because I mostly use Ande, and the best knot for it is the polamer. This was verified but a massive test done by one of the saltwater magazines using the same equipment used to test line on line class world records. I almost never break off at the knot when snagged. The line stretches, then snaps usually half way between the hook and swivel, which I think is kind of odd.

Yeah. Ill try my hand at snelling with it. I can cinch them down, but it takes some effort.
Chuck, I think why it may be breaking between the hook and the swivel is because there is less stretch between those two points than anywhere else.

I agree Richard! That's where mine breaks also!

I snelled some hooks last night. I been thinking about doing it so I can have some leaders already made up. Just been kind of lazy and not done it yet.

I like to Snell my upturn eyes on hooks, but If im using a straight shank ( which is rare) I use the Palomar.
