morels and this weather

This time last year we were poking around the woods looking for our first morels....this year we'll be lucky if they are up by the second week of april. Might be a short season for them. I have a feeling that the cold weather will break and we'll jump into the upper 70s, and then 80's in a very short period of time. I give them 3 weeks, april 7 through the first of may. By then the weather will be drying them out and the woods will be too green to find them.

Just bored and wanted to share. Does anyone else remember a year similar to this spring.....if so how did the morels do?

Usually when we have late march snow we do really well around here. We're headed to Michigan may 16-19 to do some shroom hunting. Two years ago they found over 3000 in three days.

I can't wait to get out and look! Shroom season doesn't last long enough around here. Guess if we could find 3000 around here, there wouldn't be a need for a long season! Lol I'd have a freezer full for the year for sure! rollo

Yeah Michigan is home to lots of shrooms and some giant ones at that. Its nothing to see them the size of a popcan up there.

We have above average land for mushrooms and were lucky to get 3000 all season. Which is typically 5 or 6 trips at 4 plus hours each.

Luckey.....you might be able to catch a bigger flathead, but i'll find a bigger mushroom.;D

Looks like were going to get that big late snow. You guys are forcasted for over a foot sunday.....were only getting 5 to 10".

It'd be a long haul for you i believe....I think kip said its like 3 hours. So i'm not too scared. Lol. We have just about 1000 acres....maybe 800 of woods. Maybe only 150-200 acres grow real good mushrooms.

Sean, you guys do have some big country down your way. I remember doing alittle work down that way last year.

On the weather, I have been watching it today. Does sound like were gonna get dumped on possibly. Hopefully this is the last one for the year! I cant take much more of this cabin fever!!! rollo

Rollo...it looks great but those rolling hills make for some tough hiking. Our mushroom patch is 600 feet above where we start our hike. Needless to say its good exercise.

I've been tired of this weather for weeks now. Lol. Bring on them 70's.

Fishing tonight and then shromin tomorow after work. I have high hopes...all this rain and 70 degree weather ought to have them growing like bamboo. I'll let you know how it goes.

We got 149 mushrooms between 4 people in 3 hours. Not great, and the size of them was smaller than average but I have high hopes for the remaining season.

ill be out looking soon, would like to get my hands on a few. lol, i am not too good at it though.
