Thanks! But it's teeth were a lot bigger and sharper than any smallmouth I've ever caught so I wasn't sure

Looks like a Smallie to me. Spots kinda have teeth but they look like a largemouth.

 So I caught this little guy fishing for channels with a hot dog/koolaid bait recipe. I thought it was a big channel until I got it to the surface. It weighed 8.7, but I still wouldn't expect to catch a flathead on something like hotdogs. Is this common? What's the weirdest thing you guys have caught flatheads on? |

It is uncommon, but there has been times flathead will eat hotdogs,liver,crawlers. My guess is most of the time the bait is moving from current and it has the smell of food so a flathead takes it. There is a few guys out west that use 10 or 12 worms on a 10/0 hook, they say it attracts bait fish and from all the vibration a flathead comes to investigate, when the flathead gets there the bait fish leave and the flathead then gulps up the nightcrawlers.
