Is this a perch? I'm not sure because I've never actually seen one before but it had small teeth

Thanks! But it's teeth were a lot bigger and sharper than any smallmouth I've ever caught so I wasn't sure

Looks like a Smallie to me. Spots kinda have teeth but they look like a largemouth.

So I caught this little guy fishing for channels with a hot dog/koolaid bait recipe. I thought it was a big channel until I got it to the surface. It weighed 8.7, but I still wouldn't expect to catch a flathead on something like hotdogs. Is this common? What's the weirdest thing you guys have caught flatheads on?

It is uncommon, but there has been times flathead will eat hotdogs, liver, crawlers. My guess is most of the time the bait is moving from current and it has the smell of food so a flathead takes it. There is a few guys out west that use 10 or 12 worms on a 10/0 hook, they say it attracts bait fish and from all the vibration a flathead comes to investigate, when the flathead gets there the bait fish leave and the flathead then gulps up the nightcrawlers.
