I am a fan of Daiichi hooks for all my catfishing, I mainly use D85Z red hooks, these are a dual action hook similar to Charlie Brown hooks. I prefer the Daiichi as they are available in smaller sizes for channel cat fishing as well as larger Flathead sizes. It would be nice to see some standardization of hook sizes between manufacturers, A D85Z 7/0 is the same size as a Charlie Brown 9/0 hook. The other Daiichi hook I am fond of is their D91 Super J. This hook comes in sizes up to 10/0 for large baits. Daiichi hooks are chemically sharpened and they actually discourage additional sharpening...
I know asking about hook preference is akin to poking a wasp nest with a stick and wondering if you are going to get stung..No one has ever accused me of being the sharpest knife in the drawer, sooooo has anyone had bad experiences with Daiichi? What is your preferred hook and why.. Any and all feed back is greatly appreciated.. fred

Daiichi hooks are typically as sharp as razor blades, that's a good thing. I messed with their circles a little bit when I was testing circle hooks out. I still use them from time to time for channels. Seemed like good hooks
Personally I use eagle claw kahles 3/0-7/0 depending. I basically use them for all catfishing these days smaller for channels larger for flathead. I use the ones with turned up eyes and snell them. Sometimes they need sharpened a bit but for the cost they are really hard to beat.

Jordan, I tried Kahles, but clearly I was doing something wrong I had a lot of trouble with the point turning back into the goldfish, chub, or gill when I set the hook.

I assume that would be attributed to hook placement. I have heard and read about other anglers saying the exact same thing. Not an issue I have had, at least that I can remember. My dad started me with kahles when I was 4 and chasing channel cats and 30 years later I still use them 99 percent of the time. While I have dabbled and tried other hooks I always end up back on kahles. I will use a circle from time to time for channels, but that's it.
