I need advice before purchasing either the Penn Squall or the Garcia Catfish Special. I'm just starting out and going after channel cats in lakes and rivers by home.

Both are good reels, abus are typically a little more user friendly when casting lighter weights.

Never used Penn's but I have all Abu's 6500 and 7000 C3 and love them.

I have the 6500 catfish specials on my channel cat rods and I love them. I have penn phathoms on my flathead rods both very good reels.

Abu 6500’s have served me well for over 30 years. I have a 7000CS Pro Rocket and it’s a nice reel but I never warmed up to it enough to buy another one. My 6500 series reels will do it all.
