Bank fishermen cast soooo far out in the rivers or lakes? But, most boat fishermen fish back towards the bank? ;D rollo

Shhhhh.... Don't give the bank fisherman any ideas. ;D We only cast far if there's a submerged creek channel or something that we wanna get to. More often than not we fish 20-30 feet off the bank. Some spots we fish 5 feet off the bank cause the flats cruise the ledge looking for a meal.

We only throw 5 to 6 feet out at our spot off cox Rollo but other places we do cast far I guess it is because they won't be by the bank if u are there and they won't be by ur boat? idk lol

I cast right off the bank. That's were my biggest flatheads have came from. That's why not using lights and being quite is so important while flathead fishing.

I fish the river a lot and used to be one of those guys that casted a mile out into the river. Then I said to myself I don't even know where the hell I'm casting to, could be empty of fish. I started reading more and how everybody was catching flatheads on sandbars and close to shore when feeding, and now it's more important to look for structure rather than think the further you cast the bigger cat you're gonna get.

I've always said that about all fishin. I'll see people bluegill fishin casting way out away from the bank. People casting for bass.....same thing.
When I'm cattin, it all depends on where I am at. Some places I need to cast out, some I don't. other times I'll stagger my rods if it's an area that produces all over. I'm also don't get the people that will sit at a spot casting in one place and saying the spot is no good because they don't do good there. I don't argue when I am told they saw me fishing and the spot there sucks. I just agree....hahaha

I usually only cast far for getting in the slack water and hit the riffles at dams, etc. Otherwise it's closer to the bank. But good point!

This is a really good point Rollo , I think this year in lake's or river's i will try fishing closer to the bank. Now hear is another ? for you guy's.....Why do we sit on a river bank or a narrow spot on a lake and cast towards the other bank and fish 5ft off that bank but we won't drop a rod 5foot off the bank we are sitting on? ( i know i'm quilty of this lol) and have no idea why i think the other side of the bank is better than the 1 i am sitting on lol

I guess one reason to cast to the other bank is so that the noise you make on your bank may scare fish off. I know some people build fires, listen to a reds game, etc. However I'm not one to fish on the other bank though.

With the size of baits I run, casting short is my only option! LOL!

I don't cast a bait every day But when I do--its a lob.
Stay alert my friends--set hard or stay home.
We normally like to survey structure with depthfinders and mark with bouys. We drop baits with little boat inside submerged brush so we don't get hung up.
Also try to hit jucnctions of submerged channels.
