Does anyone clip the pectoral fins on bullheads when using them. I knew a guy who used to use them at paylakes alot and he always clipped the fins. He said that the flatheads wouldn't take them if they had the fins attached, I have since found that to be inaccurate. I always wondered though, that maybe the blood would help attract more fish?

that a tough question to answer.........i've used them with their dorsal clipped and just regulaur and it's hard to tell a difference......
with a big bullhead it might not hurt to help slow him down and from getting hung up..........

Never had any success with bullheads in lakes. When using bullheads in lakes with a bottom rig, the bullhead hides itself in the mud from predators because the bullhead gets lazy because there is no current. So there is no action. But using a bullhead on a float rig might be a different story. I don't know. That is something that I would have to try out. In rivers the bullhead has to stay swimming because of the current. So it has plenty of action. And I know flatheads like a lively bait.

I've heard of people who use bullheads that clip the fins was so they wouldn't hurt each other in the bait buckets and be easier to handle when hooking. I seriously doubt that flathead encounter bullheads with clipped fins often or ever bother to check. I didn't know this flathead was on my line last year much less the channel cat. I can't say for sure if I actually had the flathead hooked and it looked like backing out the channel cat might do more harm than good. But over a 6 or 7 year period I would bait one pole with bullheads and I never got a single run from them. This was long enough to convince me that they weren't a good bait where I fish. MMagis got a 63 pound flathead shortly after we put baits out one night. Then we caught channel cat after channel cat till we nearly ran out of bait. This prompted me to think maybe that flathead was there waiting on spawning channel cats to move around.
