That was last year....haha Like I said, I don't say it's the right way, but for most of the river areas I fish, it works the best for me. Sometimes in slack water areas i'll go with a tail hook, but with as many channel cats as I have hit live baits in the river, I end up tearing the baits off more times than I wanna count. At least when a channel short strikes a gill the way I usually do it, I'll at least get my bait back and know what happened instead of the what if's.

Rock......with all this rain i might try to slip to the lake sat night and try for some flatheads a a bigger channel for the online tourney just hope the weather hold's out for sat?

Ive never really had problems with baits dying in the river other than the dead of summer when the water temps are real high. I usually run big baits in the river to deter the channelcats and smaller flats. I hook all my big baits up through the bottom lip and out thrugh the nose and smaller baits through the back right behind the dorsal fin. I believe if you having baits die soon your hooking them to deep. You might just not be taking care of your bait well enough also.
