This weekend I caught a baby flathead and hooked it up to the digital scale. Rapala 50lb digital scale. (I weigh everything for my fishing log.) The scale read just under 3 pounds. I didn't think much and started down to the water when Kip told me my scale was wrong. He hooked it up to his scale and it weighed 5 pounds 14 ounces. I then hooked up 3, 6 ounce sinkers and the scale read 8 ounces. It seems to be weighing a little over half of the actual weight.
My only guess to how it got this way would be that it got a little wet in the rain the other day on the boat. I figured since it was a fishing scale it would have been alright. That may or may not be the issue though.
Is there any way to fix a scale when it does things like this? I tried un-doing the battery and it still read half of the weight. Any suggestions?

I think your scale is on kilos. You should be able to just switch over to lbs. A kilo weighs 2.2046 lbs which seems to be what your getting

Check the kilos setting first, but to actually check the accuracy you need something of known weight (sinkers aren’t reliable), and larger than a few ounces. If it is indeed off, there’s nothing that can be changed on a digital scale. It’s either right or it’s wrong

If you do find it to be inaccurate scales I would suggest a set of berkley scales. They may not be the greatest ones out there but I have had a 50lb set for six years now and have never had a problem with them. They have been wet and beat around and still preform the way they did when they were new. They only reason I would consider replacing them is if I upgraded to the 100lb model. But so far I have had no need to do that. ;D

Yep it was on kilos. I was messing around with it last night and hit the memory button and it switched back to pounds. Feel pretty stupid now. Its still accurate, I weighed my tackle box on a variety of scales. (26lbs 3-4 oz) Only one of the scales read 26lbs 4 oz.
