Circle hooks vs Kahel hook's I have heard people say circle hook's are better for this and not good for that , I run the kahel hook's for all my catfishing need's I have also heard that you can run a kahel hook like a circle and let the fish load the rod and it will set itself is this true? I have never had a kahel hook fail me, i have never had 1 turn back into the bait or fail to hook a catfish in the corner of the mouth what's your opinion? ......... What is your experience and hook up ratio with both ? ........Sniper

Circles are great when you know the fish is going to swim further away from you when it takes the bait. Vertical fishing from a boat and short lines from the bank are good examples. Whenever there’s a chance that the fish may swim closer, or at least not away from you, they can be a set up for disappointment. Any hook can be allowed to load up like a circle under the right circumstances. Standard J hooks have been used for jugs and limb lines since long before circle hooks came out, though the shape of a kahle allows it to work better than a J hook.

If your fishin circle hooks and a fish pics up the bait and swim toward you or short bite you'd want to reel in slowly until you feel the tension of him stopped or him turnin another way. And then you just apply more and more pressure. And then you reel in the fish

Just because you gut hook a flathead you do not need to kill it, we have gut hooked fish alot on the lakes with long lines out, it happens no way to stop it, but all you have to do is reach in the mouth and pull the hook out a flathead has a large enough mouth to reach in, grab the hook and pop it out. ive gut hooked fish in the teens and reached down and popped the hook out. sometimes the stomach is pulled out when reeling the fish in but the fish will swallow it back down, flatheads are stronger than alot of people think, but if eating a few fish is your thing more power to ya, Its just not for me there is too few of flatheads in the lakes i fish to even want to take smaller fish out, we have enough juggers around to do that for us, they cant grow if there dead.

it's all relative to where you're fishin that determines whether strict catch and release prmotes a trophy fishery or not. Alot of places selective harvest.....keepin a bunch of 10lberish fish can help sustain a trophy fishery..I agree on not keeping any bigguns anywhere.........10lb bluecats make real good nuggets.....

Many times I've spent the week with flathead rash up to my elbow from removing a hook from a fish that swallowed the bait. It's actually very simply on fish over 15 lbs or so. Flatheads 40+ lbs have very large mouths and can swallow a bait in a flash.

I used Kahle hooks for years and finally tried the octopus circles two years ago and love the circles. The only thing I miss about Kahles is setting the hook! The circles I buy are out of HK. 50 circles from 6/0 to 10/0 and come in packs of 50. They cost $9.90 shipped! I have used these circles for 3 years now and have never ever broke one, these are heavy duty. If you want the link pm me. For the price they are worth it. Don

I pretty much use circles any more. I even bought small ones for bait fishing.
