ive still only got one flathead but i prefer slender baits

As always shad the bigger the better I refer to them as are skipjack. But let's face I use what ever is in front of me. Of course I try to target specific bait but that's not always real. The tributaries that feed the big body of waters we are fishing are always my best bet. Use what they are feeding on.

I can only speak for channel cats but the bait preference changes throughout the season based on what is migrating, spawning, or the general mood of the fish.
to be quick, I like sucker most of the time but when the goldeyes are spawning the cats will switch to goldeye, they will then go back to sucker for a while or shrimp/crawdads and later in the summer they will change back to goldeye if there was a good hatch. Also in the late summer and fall they may go to frogs because the frogs are moving back to the river.
