Was reeling in a fish recently and was wondering what was wrong with my 6500c4 reel when i noticed the heel of the reel tilted upward and forward.Managed to get the fish in and saw that the electroweld had come off where the foot connects to the heel/rear crossbar of the reel. I've read a few tutorials about how to attach plates & drill holes etc to repair it but wondered if anyone has had any success using a structural adhesive like JB Weld, Q-Bond or even superglue for this repair. Sure would be alot easier. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Good question Garrett. I recently found that my 5600 rocket was missing a reel foot.

I have used JB Weld before on several projects but for the reel foot it would be way to brittle. It would break the first time you stressed it. By the time you pay some one to drill, tap and countersink the reel foot. Unless you can do the work yourself it is cheaper to just buy a new frame. It is not a common problem, it usually happens when the drag has been locked down to much. Over stressing the back of the frame at some time or other. Kip if it a CL Rocket with a thumb bar, frames retail abound $41 or $42. Thumb bar frames are $8 to $10 higher.

I slipped and fell on my 6000 broke the reel clear off the foot so I took and drilled thru where the spot welds are and put flathead screws in it and then cut the screws off flush with the cross member worked great been that way for 3 years now and not a problem actually better than the spot welds

Flea-bay is a good place to pick up a new or good used frame.

Not trying to hijack thread, question at hand has been answered thoroughly and didn't wanna start new thread. Abu doc I have a newer style 7000hsn with something wrong. When I am reeling a fish in there is a spot during each handle rotation where it feels "gummed up" or kinda grinding..or justnot smooth. Its not during the entire rotation of the handle, yet just one spot of each rotation if that makes sense. Now when I reel in just the bait and a weight it feels cometely smooth and normal. It is only when the rod is loaded up with tension from a fish. Even when reeling in big bait and 8oz weight I don't notice it and feels smooth? I hope it might just be a bad spot in the worm gear?

Its not during the entire rotation of the handle, yet just one spot of each rotation if that makes sense. Now when I reel in just the bait and a weight it feels completely smooth and normal. It is only when the rod is loaded up with tension from a fish. Even when reeling in big bait and 8oz weight I don't notice it and feels smooth? I hope it might just be a bad spot in the worm gear? Usually if there's a bad spot on the gear or grit in the gear you will feel the bad spot or grit every time the gear rotates 360 degrees. Under a load or not. Easiest check is to pull the non handle side plate and clean the worm gear. Blast it with some brake cleaner. Then oil the bushings on each end of the worm with 3in1 oil and a few drops of 10/30 motor oil on the worm gear. 10/30 oil won't collect grit as bad as grease, you'll just have to put a drop of 10/30 on the worm from time to time. With the non handle side plate off you will be able to see the two nylon gears that drive the worm. Clean those and inspect for damage or grit. Don't remove the large nylon gear just clean it in place. If that doesn't do it we'll have to go a little deeper into the other side.
