Went out to the lake today to get a few gills for bait to use at the river tomorrow. Left the house a little before 10am and stopped at a bait store and grabbed a couple dozen wax worms. Air temp was 21 degrees at this point...which wasn't a big deal cause I was only gonna stay for an hour or until I caught a half dozen gills. Got on the water at about 11am and quickly caught 6 or 7. I got greedy and decided to stay and fish for a few more, so I got in the car and drove to the other end of the marina. Once again I quickly caught gills. At about 12:45 I decided to head back to the car because I was getting pretty cold. I get in and turn the key....nothing. The radio and lights were working so I know my battery wasn't dead. I looked to my instument cluster and my security light was flashing. My car had enabled its anti theft system and wouldn't allow the car to start. Turns out that its a major problem for my car, and it would cost 700 to 1000 bucks to fix. I called the tow truck and waited in my car for them to arrive. Talk about being cold, its 7pm and i still feel chilled. I don't think i'll get to fish the river until this weekend now.
On an up note I did find a part that allows me to bypass the anti-theft system for 200 bucks.

I have heard of that before...I was always told you can unhook battery terminals for some amount of time and it'll reset...if I am correct there should be plenty of info on Google...maybe different with your car tho...sorry to hear about the bad day...being stranded at the lake is better than being stranded other places tho for sure!

I did try to unhook the battery and it didn't work. There's also a way to reprogram your security system to your key, but that didnt work either. I was on the internet on my phone for an hour trying to solve my problem and avoid a tow bill. Turns out that it was bound to happen and i'm just glad it was 40 mins away from home and 80 dollars instead of two hours away and 200 dollars.

Lol. I thought of that song when I named the thread. No harm done, I was pretty calm about things today.. the mood was more or less annoyed and discouraged. I was never really mad or anything. Pretty funny though.

Sean what kind of car do you have, I had the same problem on my 2000 grand am and I bypassed it with a resistor under 10 bucks worked for my car at least.

1998 monte carlo. Ordered the part Tuesday as I was waiting for the tow truck to arrive. The part arrived Saturday evening while i was fishing. Got it installed this morning and it works fine. I had read a few posts on car forums where guys were talking about adding an in-line resistor to bypass the system, but I wasn't sure how to do it. Oh well, I guess it's done now.
