10/4....I will do that. I found some on catfish connection for $20...then some on bottom dweller for upwards of $100....I'm gonna check places around town for sure..them $20 ones would be fine if they light up all the lines in my spread is all I want...

Shovelhead 48# muskingum river. Seems like I've caught a few right at 48 out of this same river.Although I caught what I believe to be biggest shovelhead fall of 2012 but didn't have scales on me.
Bluecat 64# and couple oz Tennessee river.
Channelcat 14# 8oz Lake Oconee GA. Lots of healthy channelcat in this 20,000 acre resovoir..they get mistaken for blues alot.

The lakes down south should of done turned over by this time of year. Atleast I know the lakes in Georgia/ SC have so you shouldn't have to worry about thermocline. The catfish very well could be deep, I don't know about 150' deep...you will have to look for them and fish a lil to find them. Like previous members stated finding bait can be key too, especially for.blue cats....you shouldn't have to worth about a thermocline until next summer when the water gets warm and stratifies.

As far as letting a catfish run I don't like to. Blue, shovelheads, or a channel cat....I like to let them pull that rod down in the rod holder.

I think it all boils down to what your comfortable and confident in as far as hook choice and hooking technique. I like circle hooks, haven't bought a j hook in a long time. I've fished plenty of lakes and rivers and I like them everywhere, in a boat or on the bank. I don't believe color makes a bit of difference whether a catfish bites your bait or not, its more of a marketing tool for hook manufacturers.
