Good places to get small awesome carp also are in irrigation ponds close to waterways that flood into them. ESP. During late winter and early spring when the water is just warming. Them big breeder fish move up on warm shallows to feed, often finding a pathway to them. Then they spawn, resulting in an abundance of awesome sized baits easy to cast net! ... rollo

If you hook them more forward behind the dorsal fin, a lot of times when the fish takes the bait, you can result in the hook turning, and hooking back into the meat of the bait! rollo

Finally knocked the dust off and caught a couple fish! A little disappointed after my digital scales gave me a false reading on a heavy flathead. But, should have known better it wasn't over 50 before posting it was. Caught two fish this past weekend. First pic. was the biggest one, second pic. was an 18.. Or so the scales said! LOL... Anyways, pretty productive night with a two fish combined weight of 314 pounds! Took third in the tourney! rollo

Catching good bait can be more of a hassle than cat fishing for sure. I know what your saying Sean! Especially, getting live bait for Flathead Fishing! It isn't easy. Sometimes it is... We catch most of our bait on rod and reel, and have several options just from years of having to do so. But, if your limited to bait areas that aren't fished out already it's a scouting game for bait as much as you spend time scouting spots for fish! Once you find some good bait spots , keep looking for more! And, when you find two or three good spots.. Keep them to yourself! I still have a few "Go To" spots, that I know always produce. I don't over fish them, and use some of them for not an every weekend trip! Gotta find and have opinions!! rollo
