has anyone tried them fishing for bait? i picked up some size 6 and 10 and it seemed to help me a lot with hook up rate and taking less time to get enough bait

Man Richard, I'd have a hell of a time not setting the hook! Lol. I seen gamakatsu had some small circles that I thought about giving a try.

Richard, I catch almost all of my bait on rod and reel. I use small j's and circles for many baits. Them small circles I love for catching bait sized carp on a couple pieces of sweet corn! rollo

That's how I started using circle hooks, started small and then worked my way up. Use a limp rod one with a fast tip and put you rod in a rod holder. I started with nightcrawlers at first. I caught tons of little fish, channels, blues, carp, drum, suckers....pretty much everything. I used the small octopus circle gamas, size 6 to 2/0.

I think i would have this problem with most baits but i might pick some up for fishing for suckers and bullheads, but gills i use a cricket hook on a slip bobber.

It helps. They work on gills too. I been using them for crappie just because they seem to swallow the hook fast on me.
Yeah, i had to refrain from setting the hook on them also. But i still give it a little jerk. I think, especially with gills, they hook themselves just from the pull on the bobber itself.

I bought some small circle hooks several years ago to use for smaller fish and never used them much. Last year while bait fishing I starting having issues with gut hooking several small drum. I had never had this issue in the past. So I tied on a small circle. It took me awhile to get use to not setting the hook. But after awhile I did fine. No more gut hooked bait, and I actually enjoyed it. Will be using them again this year when catching medium sized baits.

Thanks for all your input guys. I've also used small circles for bait. If I don't have any small circles, then i use a long shank hook...

I started using Size 6 Gamakatsu for Smallmouth a few years ago. Now I use them for suckers, bluegills or anything I can use as bait. I got mine off Ebay.
