I fish mostly for flatheads. When my boat gets back ill be fishing for blues to. I want to know which reel will do me best? If either of these will be fine or should i go to a different reel altogether? 7000ic3 or alphamar ? I'm leaning towards the 7000ic3. Is there a comparable okuma that would be good. Thanks in advance.

I have an Alphamar 16, I love it, it is the smoothest reel I have ever used, it also has way more drag than the 7000ic3. Just my 2 cents.

Check out BigDave @ Bottom Dwellers Tackle for one unbeatable deal on either the 7000ic3 or Alphamar. I believe he has Okumas too.

I have a few 7000's, and i say go alphamar. Love my 7000's, but as far as abu goes, you can't beat the alphamar. May i suggest a penn fathom?? Best all round cat/drum reel ive ever had my hands on. 30lbs of drag as oppose to 27lb (i think) that the alphamar has. And i second the statement about checking out bottom dwellers.

Hey Pip, I have two 7000' s left from my original ten. They never failed me I had to buy a wedding dress. I have heard good things about the new Alphamar though. Give Big Dave a holler he will tell you anything you want to know about them, and if he doesn't know he wont stop until he finds out. I guarantee that.

you cant go wrong either way. the okumas are a good reel but not comparable. the okumas are more comparable to the penns you have now. i have 6 penn's and never had an issue but i prefer the abus for smoothness and castability. i run ic3s and they are great, i have no experience with the alphamar though. or the fathom for that matter but hear nothing but great things about them

I agree with jordan. I have ran 7000s for years and never had an issue but have heard some amazing things about the alphamors. Everyone i know that has one really talks up how tough and smooth the drag is in them. I wouldnt mind trying one myself soon. Good luck in you decision though i bet you will be happy whichever you choose. Let us know which ya pick and what ya think of it...

I have the Fathoms my best friend has the Alphamars they are so close to being the same you would think the same person designed them. The 7000 series will always have a special place in catfishing. But are just not in the same class as the two I mentioned before. Just to make sure if you haven't got it yet Bottom Dwellers is the best place to buy any of the reels talked about.

AlphaMars are the better reel, I have 7 or 8 of the 7000's and I like them very well but there is no comparison. With that said, I also have the Penn Fathom and again, no comparison.
