Most of the guys who report flathead won't bite in the rain are made of sugar and don't fish in the rain. Ducky and Justcrazy are the experts cause they are duck hunters and spend as much time wading around and fishing in the rain as they can. Early in the year it seems to depend if the rain is cooler than the water or not if it makes fishing better or worse. In July or August I welcome a big thunderstorm because it puts cooler aerated water into the backs of bays and the muddy water gives flathead a hunting advantage. Here is a picture of my catch from a night in Aug. The largest fish was a female and she was 61 pounds. I fished the back of a bay in 3 and 4 feet of water. It rained so hard I had to tip my head down to breath. The lake raised 2 foot during the night and I pumped my boat out 3 times.

Rain makes this guy happy! Its just a shame how bad your reels can get dirty and gritty, you definitely have to keep an eye on em, I try to fish areas with high weeds or grass when I know its goin to rain but sometimes you got to fish where there is rocks and sand, just try to get your reels off the ground or use pieces of TARP to lay them on, I baught cheep pie pans one year and that seemed to work, but was a pain in keeping them in good condition for a season, one thing I learned, Flathead fishing is very hard on gear!

I've always done good on the lakes in the rain and always kinda suspected what Robbie said but to be honest I never really noticed a huge difference in the river unless it was enough rain to cause a rapid raise in water level... but have a whole lot less experience on rivers than lakes so could be coincidence...
