Do any of you use this when flathead fishing? I hear if it gets on your hands and you touch the bait, you are not going to get a bite because the catfish will pick up on the scent?

I try to never use any foreign scents on my hands. Not saying either way but big flatheads don't come everyday so I'm not taking any chances! Lol

Call me crazy, but I spray the poles down and myself with it when the bugs are bad and never had any problem with tearing fish up!!! I call it my secret weapon!!! Just my two cents!!!!

My buddies thinks I'm crazy, but one night the bugs was eating us up and I went crazy spraying everything!!! We only had one fish in the live well!!! 35 min. Later we had over a hundred pound and won a tourney!!! Now if bugs are bad I spray everything!!! It in my opinion don't attract fish but it doesn't scare them away either!!!!

I stopped using any sprays years ago and never have trouble with bugs. I use Thermacell it's the best product out there for flying/biting bugs. No nasty sprays no scent and best of all NO bugs.

I try not to get it on my hands, not sure if that really helps it or not. My dad was like that, so thats where I picked it up from.
I've been thinking about trying the thermocell out so I don't have to mess with the spray though

I always heard bugspray gasoline and sunblock were all a bad deal on your hands during cat fishing but as Jordan said I'm Leary of any scent and as kip said they don't come along everyday so I ain't risking it! I get ate alive every trip due to my bugspray superstition but never experimented one way or another...always figured it was better safe than sorry when it comes to tracking down that one fish of a lifetime!

I just wanted to point out a few things. The petroleum base (liquid in bug spray) will deteriorate monofilament line. Bugspray in a bait tank cannot be good for baits. Thermocells and refills are not much more expensive than premium mosquito repellant sprays. BTW I have heard claims that many items attract catfish but this is the first time I heard bug spray. The word repellant is an obvious hint I take Chad fishing with me and he repells everything (especially flathead and good looking women)
