Maybe someone can help me with this? I have been fishing the warm water discharge in Aberdeen Ohio for quite some time. It seems like everybody I talk to says they like to go catch skipjack there. For a while I thought I had misidentified the fish I were catching as mooneye, when they should have been called skipjack. However after doing some research i found that the fish I catch for bait are actually mooneye. Is it possible that hundreds of people are misidentifying mooneye as skipjack. Below is a picture of a few of the larger ones we caught for bait. Using Papaws link, what do you think? Mooneye or skipjack? Attachments:

What you have there look like mooneyes to me. Skipjack are more slender height wise. Skipjack can be caught at Aberdeen but have been scarce the last few years.

What you have pictured there are definitely Mooneye. While mooneye are great bait, I still preffer skipjack here on the Ohio River in my area. Mooneye would definatly be my bait of choice in the area where you are catching them!!! Mooneye: Skipjack:

Thanks, this is what I had thought. Dreadnaught what you said about them being good in the area where we catch them, is very true. We never have any luck with them any where else. They also seem to break down and get soggy after you freeze them, so it dosen't do any good to keep them.
