Hello everyone i am new to the forum. I am very interested in flatheads. I never caught them on pole and line until i moved to clinton iowa. I have hooked up some very nice fish, but i keep losing them i dont know what im doing wrong. I am usin 5/0 circle hooks and live shad. I have tried just pulling and reeling and setting the hook but all with the same results. I give them ample time and line to swallow the bait as well. I just want to get one of these monsters in my boat. Please any help would be appreciated

I would try upsizing your hook to like an 8/0 or 10/0 t make sure there is enough hook gap to let the point set into the fish

Well i was out tonight for a while and managed to catch a nice 5 pounder and lost a massive blue that wrapped me up on a pillar. I need to invest in some braided line. My mono line just isnt cutting it anymore.
