Gotmehooked: I have seen guys spool ambasadauer 6000 with 30lb mono, and they have had no problem. I wouldn't go surf casting with it though. Most casts with live baits only go 20 or 40 yards, so you will have a good bit of line to work with. You could google the line diameter of 30lb test and the capacity of the reel and get a pretty good idea of what you will have to work with. If I had to guess I would say that you would have about 125 yards of 30lb mono when freshly spooled.
Just looked this up: An ambassadeur 6000 will hold 155 yards of 20 lb test. Couldn't find the 6500 line capacity though. I think they have the same line capacity, atleast the new ones do. The only difference is the number of bearings. My initial guess of 125 yards seems quite optimistic now, its probably closer to 90 yards.

Hey Robbie. I see what your saying about the Dacron, but even with the superbraid ran out with your boat to drop lines on bottom, you still prefer the Dacron? We fish Fireline Tracer Braid with mainly floats on the lakes and love it. Sure it has more to do with each angler, how and where you fish though.. rollo

Hey Robbie. I see what your saying about the Dacron, but even with the superbraid ran out with your boat to drop lines on bottom, you still prefer the Dacron? We fish Fireline Tracer Braid with mainly floats on the lakes and love it. Sure it has more to do with each angler, how and where you fish though.. rollo The problem when taking baits out with super lines is that it floats. It's a mess in a lot of different ways when you have 75 yards of line out. It catches every leaf on the lake, you end up with 1/4 mile of bow in your line, every bassmaster that comes by will wrap up your line in their trolling motor (that's lots of fun ) ALso, if you have 4 rods side by side and one catches a fish, especially a channel cat, all four can end up knitted together tighter than an over mitt. The dacron line settles down on the bottom of the lake and doesn't get into much trouble. There used to be a super line that sunk and worked nicely, but they don't make it any more. When using floats and live baits, a floating line is the best choice.
