caught this 22" slab in the lower cuyahoga. while i would never eat anything out of the hoga, half the people i ask said the where trash fish and the other said they were good to eat. whats your guys' opinions? btw this thing put up a pretty good fight. alot of people say they are weak fighters but i have to disagree Attachments:

I have had people tell me they were trash fish as well. I have never ate drum and I don't plan too. I kinda lump them into the carp category, in which some people eat them and others don't. I'd rather catch it again than eat it anyway. Here's a picture of a five pounder out of the Ohio river. My friend caught an eight pounder last year as well. They sure are fun to catch. Attachments:

I would agree with you these fish put up quite a fight, and I have been told they are the freshwater version of the highly prized redfish who are known to put up a very good fight. I have had oldtimers tell me they are excellent table fare. Very nice fish brother.

Also very nice fish Sean and friend, I am sure ya'll had a nice fight on your hand's, I would like to add the fact that the ODNR does list the Freshwater Drum as a sportfish. I have caught Drum and they sure are fun, but I too have not eaten Drum and do not intend to. Catch and Release for me.

caught this 25" 8lb black drum in florida last fall. almost identical to its freshwater cousin. crazy hard fight and damn good eating. Attachments:

We catch alot of them early spring moving up in feed creeks. Alot of fun to catch for sure! ... rollo
