Thinking of getting a kayak for storage and portability reasons. Anyone think it can be done or know anyone who fishes for big fish from kayaks, I've seen anglers catch marlin on T.V. from them.

Funny you bring this up! Me and Rollo were just talking about this today! I think it would be a blast and quite a challenge in the rivers we fish! Check this video out!

In Oct Mmagis hauled his kayak in his big grizzly flatbottom to see if we could drop baits with it. With shallow draft he was able to get and drop baits faster with the kayak than I could with my boat and trolling motor.
I would be concerned fighting large flathead from the kayak. When they get short they would probably circle and dive. That would tend to tip the boat I imagine. But even if you wear it out, would you put it in the kayak with you?

Well they could run it beside the kayak... I've seen on tv where they do it with waiters on for muskies... They never leave the water so you could lean

I saw that video kip, looked exciting. There are some stable kayaks out there now, especially a pro angler version hobie makes. If people can catch sailfish from them and tarpon I think a flathead is manageable.

i got 12' sit in fishing yak,i got a total of 6 rod holder, lights and a humminbird fish finder along with the floataion outrigger.i havent tried to fish the tidal water yet but have had it on the upper parts of the river, there not bad to fish out of other then casting long rods are a pain and you want a light anchor so when you get a big fish it will pull you around because they will tip you if your not careful as far as bringing fish inside i advise not words of wisdom

I've been looking at a jackson big tuna. Has a livewell in it and supposed to be really stable. The guy promoting another of their kayaks the coosa I believe jumps and does a 360 in it and lands it without falling over. I'll keep everyone posted when I get it.
