I hear a lot about using goldfish. Never tried it. Never even heard of it til i met y'all. what kind of goldfish? What size? and where do you get em from. Cause i Know goldfish from the pet store are expensive unless you buy feeder fish and their pretty small.

You can get goldfish at most bait stores that sell minnows. The size depends on what you are targeting. They are waaay cheaper in bait shops than pet stores and will cost anywhere from 50cents to $5-6 a piece. I'll buy their biggest ones (being around 7-10inches normally) when I am planning a trip to the Muskingum or another place that holds big flatheads. They stay alive great! I've never really targeted channels with goldfish but I've caught some nice channels on goldfish while fishing for flatheads.

Decent bait really. Most bait shops carry them easy to keep alive. Still the best bait to use is what's natural to them via feeder creeks flash floods overflow of ponds etc.

I would not suggest buying goldfish for channel cats, they are too expensive, besides shad makes a much better bait for channels, but if you are goin after flathead in July and August. They are definitely the best bait you can have, I get mine for 13 dollars pound, hopefully by next year I will not need to buy any, I am in the process of building a pond specifically for goldfish.

Yes they do Jordan. He told me basically that. Dig a water hole, don't put any other fish in there. Get em started and in three years I'd have more goldfish than I knew what to do with! rollo

I've bought them before for last minute trips. Expensive but I've caught a few nice Flatheads using them. Like others have said there easy to keep alive even in the heat of the summer!

I can give you a link to learn more about goldfish and have another option to obtain them. www.blacksalty.com/I contacted them and you can have the baits Fed Ex delivered. They ship on two days each week and baits are deliverred overnight. I am considerring this option to have bait available in Oct after bait shops quit having goldfish deliverred. Just keep in mind that you must fill out an Ohio import form and get it approved by the state before recieving baits. The hatchery (black salty) will email the form to you with their information filled out on it.
