its time to replace my 7000ic3's that were stolen from me. i like the 7000 but thinking bout a 6500. i have never used a 6500. i still have 1 7000 but i need some more quality reels. so any pros and cons bout a 6500 compared to the 7000 would be awesome to hear

Line capacity and drag. That's about the difference.

I Agree with kip, if your running, mono larger than 25 lb or dacron, a 6500 just doesn't hold enough line to be comfortable with or drag baits out at a distance.

I used both for years. I would rather fish with a 6500 any day. If I were hooked up to a big fish, I'd rather have a 7000, if they were my only 2 choices that is. But they aren't. Now I'd much rather have a Alphamar, or better yet it's all metal twin the Penn Fathom. I feel the Fathom is the best catfishing size reel I have ever used. And they aren't much more than a good 6500 or a 7000.

Thanks for the tip. I will have to check out the Penn reel. Only penns I have looked at are the 220 and 330gt lever drags

Ya Abu Is by far my favorite that I have used. I think I'm just gonna have to try the 6500c3

I agree with kip on the line capacity. Just dont hold enough heavier line.

The 6500s and 7000s both have their advantages. I have used both for years also, and still do. Very good points made. My opinion is simply how you fish, and the rods you prefer. One important thing for me is the entire setup has to feel good to you when in your hands. Some of my buddy's prefer the 6500s over the 7000s. But, their setups are with lighter action rods such as Shimano Compres compared to some of my heavier action Black and Blues. However, 6500s on these rods don't feel right to me. So a lot has to do with how you fish, but it has to be comfortable also to you. Both are awesome reels for sure though. rollo

I mainly use 6500's because of the waters I mainly fish. It all depends on what you target and the size of the fish in those waters. It's hard to find an all-round setup.

I mainly use short m\h rods in the 7 to 7'6" range and cast distance isn't a big problem where I fish normally casting 20 yards or less

Tr200s are awesome reels, I have 4. Cant beat for price, lower profile, yet holds plenty of heavy line, loud clicker, not too stiff, good gear ratio, just a nice reel.

Ducky, did you ever use the tritons? If so, how does the stiffness of the clicker compare to the tr200s? My brother had a couple of the tritons, I had to loosen them up a little, those were tight. But when you got a run, it would almost give you a heart attack they were so loud.
