I just lucked into a sit in Kayak to add to my Bank fishing gear. My plan is to use it to paddle my Bluegills and bullheads out into the lake farther then I can cast. My set ups are a pair of 5500 pro rockets on 8ft uglystik catfish rods. I am guessing lack of line capacity and the need for a stronger rod for the long hooksets will work against my current set ups. I am pretty set on a Bottom Dwellers original cat fight rod when they return to stock. Reels, I am leaning toward the 6500 series, I plan on using 40lb. Power pro braid line capacity shouldn't be a problem? I am looking at both the ProRocket and the BigGame. Leaning toward the BigGame due to it coming with the power handle and the fact that it is $20.00 cheaper then ProRocket doesn't hurt either. Am I missing something that makes the ProRocket a better choice? The only bummer with either choice is that Bottom Dwellers doesn't carry either reel. If I am overlooking a better choice and or any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

probably not a whole lot of difference in the 2 reels, just wondering where you are pricing them from, I found them at $122 for the 6500cl big game and $137 for the rocket, I think the rocket has and extra bearing but I am not sure, my fishing partner has the cl and really likes it, I have the chrome rocket and its pretty sweet but that's another 50 lol

Dave can get about any reel even though there not on the website. I'd contact him. Also I'd run at least 65# braid if your going with the power pro. I run 80# on my lake rods.

Dave, your right its a 15 dollar difference, so there isn't much difference cost wise, 65 lb braid, I thought I was going large with 40lb. I really want to be sure to get this rod, reel and line set up right.

Over kill isn't ever a bad thing when your chasing flatheads! I don't want to be the guy telling the story of the one that got away!

They are the same except for the power handle and color. Both reels have the heavier frame that come with the pro rockets.

AbuDoc, thanks for the heads up on them being the same reel. Seems like the 6500 Big Game for 122.00 with Power handle is a much better deal.

Just when I think I have decided to go with the 6500 Pro Rocket, I notice that Bottom Dwellers has the 7000 Pro Rockets for a sale price that makes them cheaper then a 6500 Pro Rocket! Guess that will give me some food for thought while I'm fishing Sat. Night.

7000 is going to be a better flathead rig than a 6500. more line capacity, stronger drag, more retrieve per crank, etc

Just to prove that I am an indecisive lunatic, I ended up ordering an Alphamar 16 from David at Bottom Dwellers.

You will like the Alphamar's and they will be a better match for the catfight rods than the 6500's.
