Alright Guys, The Alphamar and Fathom reels have been in circulation for a while so I hope I can hear some reviews. Money is the main issue. The Alphamar 16 is on sell at Bottom Dwellers for $117 and the Fathom is $ 170.00. I have heard enough about the Fathom it is a great reel but with only 3 lbs of drag separating the two. Who has used the Alphamar and does $50.00 make a big difference between the two.

I have them both. Both are excellent reels and I personally don't see 3 #'s of drag making that much difference. With Dave at Bottom Dwellers having the best price, and the customer service that he has, I see no reason to have any debate on what one to purchase, I would recommend the brand of choice for you. Now, I have the Alphamars and Cindy uses them with great success, I have also used them and they cast very well and work outstanding. I use the Fathom and see no difference in castablity and they are super good on big fish.

You can't loose with either. I use and love both of them. My preference is the Fathom, but the Alphamar is great too.

The Fathom is worth the extra cash to me.

Hey Chuck, the Shimano Tekota is another fine choice available from Big Dave. We tried them out when we fished with Kip a few weeks back. REALLY smooth reels, cast like a dream. I still prefer the Penn over all the others, but the Shimano is a fine choice also.

They are basically the same with the Penn having a few extras. Line capacity rings on the spool, adjustable handle length, drag washers that can be arranged to change max drag settings, a metal left side plate instead of graphite and a clicker on the spool tensioner. They will both reel in any flathead so I vote to get the Alphamar while it is on sale.
