This year has been a crazy one for most of us! To be honest, the last few years have been not exactly normal! I just want say, don't get worked up over all the rain... Foremost!!! High water! Once these flatheads start working themselves off spawn.. They can be found active again,,,, in the early spring high water areas! Have had some late summer catches in the past during these conditions. Keep your heads up! Fish to be caught still!! rollo

Seems like 2010 was the last "normal" year around here.Maybe this is the new normal.

I agree Pat! That was my last productive year for big flatheads. 2010 there wasnt a front moving through every weekend and pretty stable river conditions.

I saw another flattie recovering in a creek yesterday. This one was a GIANT.....water was too muddy to get a clear pic but I did watch him for a minute or so. Its amazing how large they can get in small water. The creek was in limestone contry so huge boulders and caves are present. That might attribute to some of its survival/growth. I havent seen anything near its size so I cant even fathom a guess. It looked like a real rod breaker though. I cant wait for August to roll around. I know ill just be disappointed if i target them right now.

"Flathead don't like rocks" Hey now.....in my personal experience flathead favor wood. I dont fish too many places where rocks average volkswaggon beetle size. Sent from my SCH-I545 using proboards

they love the rocks. especially at night. they hold the heat from the day and attract bait. i hope you catch him. he may not live there though. just be there to spawn. i would try to catch him before they start leavin the creeks and heading back for big water. i hope for your sake he lives there. and has a few buddies that hang around. looks like the water could support some big fish plus food supply seems to be there. same stretch the last one was in?

Sorry Sean had to bring that one back up. Oh they live there alright. I'm just afraid won't invite me back until after he catches that beast.

A mile downstream....and he wont be leaving anytime soon. Hes trapped both upstream and downstream in a 3 mile stretch of skinny water. Id like to think someone has a shot at catching him in the fall. Sent from my SCH-I545 using proboards

Good luck with that whale Sean! Up here by downtown the Scioto seems to get blown out if it starts sprinkling. I have a few high river spots where it's possible to fish high waters but they haven't been producing much.
