I love to catch fish. I have been trying to catch catfish in many ponds and lakes. debate I have been using have been cut up bream, and chicken liver. lately I have been fishing this late in North Carolina. the water is warm and while on my boat I've been seeing a lot of bubbles at the surface all around me. I have had a lot of luck with cut up brim at small ponds but form the lake I used dead oily shad from Walmart but I havent had any luck. what can I do.

I would guess that the bubbles your seeing are turtles or gas being released from natural processes. .. decompoaition, etc. As far as cats go....it sounds like your on the right track. Brim, shad, and even night crawlers are good options for cats of all types. When it gets late in the year the water loses available oxygen in the deepest part of SOME lakes.....this is called the thermocline. In ohio the lake I fish the thermocline sets in at 13 feet. This means you wont see many fish below that 13 foot depth mark....so I typically dont fish deeper than 12 foot. Combine that with the fact that when it gets this hot cats feed primarily at night and you will start narrowing down spots and times to fish. Find where the thermicline sets in and start fishing there. If its 13 foot find a flat that is 12 foot and toss out baits. Each hour without action move shallower and try again. If you can find a shallow flat where the main river channel swings near by thats where id start my search. Good luck Sent from my SCH-I545 using proboards

When I wanna catch a lot of catfish in a lake I just use a small circle hook on a Carolina rig and a tub of livers. I fish off boat docks. There's never really anything over 4lbs but it's not a lot of waiting.
